What is Phenazolam?
Phenazolam is a thienotriazolodiazepine — a research chemical in the benzodiazepine family, structurally related to alprazolam (Xanax) and etizolam. It acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor, producing potent anxiolytic, sedative, hypnotic, and muscle-relaxant effects. It is significantly more potent than alprazolam (roughly 2–4x by weight) and is known for its long duration and strong amnesic effects. It is not approved for medical use in any country and is sold primarily as a gray-market research chemical, often in powder or pellet form.
Effects
Phenazolam produces strong anxiolytic and sedative effects that can easily escalate into heavy sedation, motor incoordination, slurred speech, and cognitive impairment. It is notably amnesic — blackouts are common at moderate to high doses. It also causes muscle relaxation, disinhibition, and at higher doses, deep sleep or stupor. Tolerance builds rapidly, and physical dependence develops quickly with regular use. Withdrawal can be severe and potentially life-threatening (seizures, psychosis). Mixing with other CNS depressants (alcohol, opioids, other benzos) drastically increases the risk of fatal respiratory depression.
